Inspired To Become Part of The Solution

As an ex-pitcher, quarterback and point guard, I want the ball with the game on the line.  "Put me in, Coach!" was my favorite mantra.  Together, we will move the ball down the field, we will score some point and perform better.

Several years ago, as a way to connect and discuss the current social and political events affecting Portland today, my Grant High friends and I started walking together. Over the years, we’ve covered more than 1,000 miles, exploring our city firsthand from dozens of varied starting locations all over Portland. During these walks, I noticed two things: First, the national narrative about Portland being ‘on fire’ was absolutely false—the city remains stunningly gorgeous. Second, it’s clear that we have work to do to address drug addiction, garbage, and tents on sidewalks.

Inspired by our experiences, we launched a grassroots program last winter, providing 350 umbrellas to Portland’s homeless during the soggy northwest season. These walks have fueled my desire to do more for this city, leading me to consider running for city council in district 2, bringing optimism, skill diversity and a lifetime of determination and persistence.

A working class career in the private sector, up and down the west coast, in all sizes and shapes of organizations, formed a mindset that focuses on solving problems and producing results - or you're out!
